Icard Township Water Corporation remains in the
Water Shortage Response Plan Stage 2.
The rainfall has not been enough to lift the City of Hickory or the Catawba - Wateree River Basin out of drought conditions. While the rain may appear encouraging, the factors that determine drought state - reservoir levels, inflow rates, and U.S. Drought Monitor conditions - have not improved sufficiently to move the region out of Stage 2.
Stage 2 includes mandatory water use restrictions for all customers. All customers are expected to reduce their water use by 10% in comparison to their previous month's water bill.
MANDATORY WATER USE RESTRICTIONS
All of Icard Township Water Corporation water customers must follow these measures:
Irrigation Restrictions
> Customers may irrigate no more than two days per week.
> Irrigation is prohibited on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
> Exceptions remain for newly planted grass, sod, and turfgrass.
Additional Requirements
> No residential vehicle washing
> Reduce overall water use; schedule discretionary use during early morning or late evening.
> Do not operate ornamental fountains or water features that do not support animal life.
> Do not fill residential swimming pools.
> Do not top off pools on prohibited irrigation days.
Prohibited Activities and Penalties
During Stage 2, the following are NOT allowed:
> Irrigating on prohibited days
> Operating ornamental water features without animal life
> Filling residential pools
> Topping off pools outside allowed irrigation days
First Violation: WARNING
Second Violation: $250
Third Violation: Discontinuation of Service
Why Stage 2 Continues...
Drought stage is determined by three key factors:
1. Reservoir levels
2. Water flowing into the reservoirs
3. Drought classifications from the U.S. Drought Monitor
While conditions are slowly improving, they have not improved enough to reduce restrictions. All three indicators must return to Stage 1 before the region can officially move back to Stage 1 and ease restrictions.
Coordinated conservation across the community is essential to protect the region's shared water resources until conditions improve. Your cooperation now helps safeguard the water supply for all who rely on it.
In summary, the rain helped, but unfortunately, not enough at this time. We will remain in Stage 2 Mandatory Conservation status until further notice. Thank you for doing your part!
